Endometriosis study
Endometriosis is a complex condition that needs more research to ensure that patients have data on possible preventative options, treatment options, and improved management strategies.
What are the existing options for Endometriosis?
Endometriosis affects roughly 10% (190 million) of reproductive-age women and girls around the world. These figures may be under-represented as there is limited awareness about endometriosis from patients and healthcare workers.
Who is the study for?
Patients with Endometriosis living in Victoria, Australia
What will patients be taking in this study?
In this study you will be assigned to one of three groups :
Group 1 will receive cannabidiol (CBD) oil
Group 2 will receive CBD oil + vaourised (i.e., inhaled) cannabis flower
Group 3 will receive placebo oil
Eligibility Criteria
Have endometriosis (confirmed either via laproscopy, MRI or ultrasound)
Live in Victoria
Are 20 years of age or older
Presented to the emergency department for symptoms related to your endometriosis 2 or more times in the past 6 months
What are the benefits for participating?
Participation in this study may help you to manage symptoms of endometriosis. However, please be aware that since there are no previous similar studies of medicinal cannabis in endometriosis, there may be no direct benefit to you from participating in this study. While the intervention we are testing was found useful in other patient populations, there is no guarantee it will be effective in people with endometriosis. However, this project may benefit the wider endometriosis community. It is likely to provide necessary data to design better treatments for people with endometriosis.
Please note that you will not be able to drive a car for up to 4 months while participating in the study. Your participation is voluntary, and you may stop at any time.
